THE CONCEPT

The concept of Maison de Maé was initially created as a pet project during the pandemic with Currie, inspired by local Southeast Asian ingredients, re-creating her mother’s fusion recipes. Unable to travel home to South Korea and to alleviate homesickness, Currie would videocall her parents while preparing snacks in between wfh videoconferences, and share with them stories of finding quintessential southeast asian ingredients in local markets, plantations & farms. Realizing that the core superfoods in her mother’s recipes – formulated for her father’s cancer treatment -  were originally Khmer, she launched the label Maison de Maé Fine Foods as an homage to her mother’s love for her family.

The name Maison de Maé was hence coined from the Khmer ‘Maé’ for mother and the french ‘Maison’ for home. Maison de Maé Fine Foods adheres to the slow food movement and carefully crafts its’ cashew creations in small batches with the same love as in our mothers’ kitchens at home or in our hearts. Maison de Maé Fine Foods’ creations incorporates local ingredients into international fusion recipes inspired by Currie’s (and her family & friend’s) travels from around the world.

THE CREATION

Maison de Maé Fine Foods was borne as the daughter company of Hung Hiep Group which was founded in 1953 and the recipient of prestigious presidential awards for agricultural exports. Together both companies seek to collectively create an ethically & environmentally conscientious collection of culturally & culinarily curated & cultivated Cambodian fine foods that protect, preserve & promote Khmer harvests & heritages.

Maison de Maé Fine Foods was founded by Currie, a retired-lawyer-aspiring-chef, with wellness & wellbeing centric recipes from her mother, a retired-nutritionist-dietician-pharmacist and advocate of back-to-basics holistic, additive free & preservative free ingredients.

Maison de Maé Fine Foods is 100% committed to community development through sustainable sourcing, production, packaging & shipping that holistically engages and empowers local entrepreneurs.
